12-Year-Old Killed After Entering Highway 183 Express Lanes in Irving

IRVING, Texas — A 12-year-old boy was killed Saturday night after entering the express lanes of Highway 183, according to the Irving Police Department.

The incident occurred on April 11, 2026, prompting the closure of westbound express and main lanes near the N. Belt Line Road exit due to a "fatal crash involving a pedestrian".

Police said two vehicles were traveling westbound in the express lanes when the juvenile climbed over a concrete guardrail and entered the roadway. He was struck by both vehicles.

Authorities said both drivers stopped as soon as it was safe and called 911.

The juvenile was pronounced dead at the scene. The Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office later identified him as 12-year-old Jeremy Danilo Cruz-Sorto and listed the time of death as 10:54 p.m. The manner of death was ruled an accident.

Irving police said they could not provide further details, including whether the boy was attempting to cross the highway or why he entered the express lanes, citing the ongoing investigation.

The investigation remains active.
