Man Arrested in Oklahoma After Two Women Shot During Domestic Dispute in Denton

Gerald Riggins

DENTON, Texas — A 39-year-old man is in custody after investigators said he shot two women during a targeted attack Tuesday night at a Denton apartment complex before fleeing to Oklahoma.

According to the Denton Police Department, officers and firefighters responded at approximately 10:07 p.m. on May 12, 2026, to reports of multiple gunshots fired in the 2400 block of North Bell Avenue.

While officers were en route, two women suffering from apparent gunshot wounds flagged down responding officers, authorities said.

Detectives determined the women had been sitting in an apartment complex parking lot when 39-year-old Gerald Riggins, who previously dated one of the victims, approached them.

Investigators said a verbal argument escalated when Riggins allegedly fired multiple rounds.

Police said one woman, identified as Riggins’ former girlfriend, was standing outside a vehicle holding a child when she was struck by gunfire. Authorities confirmed the child was not injured.

The second victim was sitting inside the vehicle and was struck by a bullet that traveled through the door, according to investigators.

Both women were transported to hospitals with injuries described as non-life-threatening.

Authorities said Riggins fled the scene before officers arrived.

Detectives later determined he had traveled to Oklahoma City and obtained three warrants charging him with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.

On Wednesday afternoon, May 13th, officers with the Oklahoma City Police Department located and arrested Riggins without incident.

Riggins is currently being held at the Oklahoma County Detention Center awaiting extradition back to Texas. Authorities said bond has not yet been set.
