RICHARDSON, Texas - A 19-year-old bicyclist died after colliding with a vehicle Monday afternoon in Richardson, according to police.
The crash occurred at approximately 5:13 p.m. on June 1 in the 1400 block of East Arapaho Road.
Preliminary information from the Richardson Police Department indicates that the driver of a Toyota Avalon was exiting a parking lot and preparing to turn west onto East Arapaho Road when the collision occurred.
Investigators said the bicyclist, identified as 19-year-old Ngan Thi Xuan Nguyen, was traveling eastbound on a sidewalk that crosses the parking lot entrance and exit. As the Toyota exited the parking lot, Nguyen's bicycle collided with the passenger side of the vehicle.
Richardson Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and transported Nguyen to a local hospital.
Despite lifesaving efforts, Nguyen later died from injuries sustained in the crash.
The driver of the Toyota, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was not injured.
The Richardson Police Department's Special Crash Investigation Team responded to the scene and is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.
