One Dead, One Injured After Fourth of July Shooting in East Fort Worth

FORT WORTH, Texas — One man was killed and another was injured after the two allegedly exchanged gunfire during a Fourth of July gathering in East Fort Worth.

According to the Fort Worth Police Department, officers responded at approximately 8:18 p.m. on July 4 to a reported shooting in the 5900 block of Wilbarger Street near Lake Arlington.

The preliminary investigation determined a large gathering was taking place when two men, who knew each other, began arguing over a woman.

Police said both men pulled out firearms and shot each other during the confrontation.

One of the men was pronounced dead at the scene.

The second man was transported to an area hospital. His condition has not been released.

Homicide detectives responded to the scene and are leading the investigation.

Police believe the shooting was an isolated incident involving individuals who knew one another.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office will release the identity of the deceased after next of kin have been notified.
