Mineral Wells Man Charged After Shooting Leaves Victim in Intensive Care

MINERAL WELLS, Texas - A 26-year-old man has been arrested after a late-night shooting in Mineral Wells left another man with multiple gunshot wounds, according to the Mineral Wells Police Department.

Officers were dispatched at approximately 10:32 p.m. on Friday, August 8th, after multiple callers reported hearing several gunshots near the 1500 block of S.E. 21st Street.

When officers arrived, they found a 28-year-old Hispanic man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the torso and one gunshot wound to the leg.

Officers immediately began life-saving measures, including applying a tourniquet to the victim's leg and attempting to control the bleeding until Mineral Wells Fire/EMS personnel arrived.

The victim was later airlifted to a Fort Worth-area hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery. He remains in the intensive care unit.

Suspect Arrested at Scene

Police identified the alleged shooter as Cesar Alberto Villareal, 26. Officers located Villareal at the scene, detained him without incident, and transported him to the Mineral Wells Police Department for processing.

Villareal was subsequently booked into the Palo Pinto County Jail on a charge of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon Causing Serious Bodily Injury.

Investigation Ongoing

Investigators determined that the victim and Villareal knew each other and believe the shooting was an isolated incident.

Authorities said there is no indication of an ongoing threat to the public.

The Mineral Wells Police Department thanked the Texas Department of Public Safety, the Palo Pinto County Sheriff's Office, and the Texas State Park Police for assisting with the investigation.

The investigation remains ongoing, and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
