FORT WORTH, Texas - Fort Worth Police are investigating a shooting at an east Fort Worth residence that left one man dead and another man who lives at the home wounded Saturday afternoon.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office identified the deceased as 29-year-old Levy Darius.
Officers with the Fort Worth Police Department's East Division responded to the 6900 block of Misty Glen Court at approximately 3:32 p.m. on Aug. 15 after receiving a report of a shooting.
According to police, an adult male who resides at the location arrived home and found another adult male whom he knew on the property.
A verbal altercation followed, and police said both men exchanged gunfire.
One of the men, later identified as Darius, was struck and pronounced dead at the scene. The other man, whom police described as a resident of the home, suffered gunshot wounds and was transported to a local hospital. His condition was not immediately known.
Police have not publicly identified the wounded resident.
Police Say Darius May Have Been Subject of Protective Order
Investigators said that during the course of the homicide investigation, they learned Darius was believed to have been the subject of an active protective order involving one of the individuals who resides at the Misty Glen Court property.
Police did not identify the person protected by the order or disclose the circumstances surrounding it.
Public property records add another layer to the investigation. According to the Tarrant Appraisal District, Levy Darius and his wife, Craigesha Jones-Levy, are listed as the current owners of the home where the shooting occurred.
Jones-Levy is listed by Fort Worth ISD as a first-grade teacher at Hubbard Heights Elementary School.
However, investigators have not said whether Jones-Levy was at the residence when the shooting occurred, whether she was involved in the protective order, or whether Darius and Jones-Levy were estranged. Police also have not identified the wounded resident or explained Darius' reason for being at the property.
Those unanswered questions are expected to be significant as homicide detectives work to determine what led to the confrontation and exchange of gunfire. The investigation is in its early stages and more information will be released later.
