GARLAND, Texas - Two young men were wounded in a shooting at Watson Park on Sunday night, including a 17-year-old who remains in critical condition, according to the Garland Police Department.
Garland Police and Fire personnel were dispatched to Watson Park in the 3900 block of Lawler Road shortly after 8 p.m. on Aug. 23 following a report that someone had been shot.
Responding officers found a 17-year-old male suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Officers immediately began lifesaving measures before the teenager was transported to a nearby hospital.
Police said he remains hospitalized in critical condition.
A short time later, officers received another call and found a 20-year-old man with apparent gunshot wounds on a nearby street. Officers provided emergency aid, and he was also transported to a hospital. His condition was listed as stable.
Police Say Two Groups Met at Park Before Gunfire
Investigators believe two groups of people had arranged to meet at Watson Park, although police have not disclosed why they were meeting.
At some point during the encounter, gunfire erupted from one group toward the other, according to investigators.
The person or people believed responsible for the shooting fled the area. Police have not released descriptions of any suspects or said whether investigators know how many shooters were involved.
Authorities believe the shooting was an isolated incident and said investigators are working to identify and locate those responsible.
The names of the two people who were shot have not been released.
