IRVING, Texas - A 20-year-old dirt bike rider was arrested after Irving Police say he ran multiple stop signs, fled from an attempted traffic stop and later took off on foot when an officer found him hiding near an apartment complex.
The incident began at approximately 6:51 p.m. on Aug. 15 when Irving Police officers were dispatched to a report of a motorcycle being operated recklessly near Finley Road and McCarthy Street in North Irving.
According to the arrest report, the person who called police reported seeing a man riding a dirt bike at high speeds, running stop signs and traveling between vehicles while sharing lanes of traffic.
Around 7 p.m., an officer in a marked Irving Police patrol vehicle was stopped on eastbound Finley Road at North Harvard Street when he spotted a dark-colored dirt bike traveling westbound.
The officer reported watching the motorcycle drive through a stop sign without attempting to stop.
The officer activated his emergency lights and siren, turned around and attempted to stop the rider, later identified as Josthin Josue Soto-Diaz, 20.
According to police, Soto-Diaz looked over his shoulder toward the pursuing officer but continued riding through the neighborhood and allegedly ran multiple additional stop signs.
Police eventually terminated the vehicle pursuit.
Officer Finds Rider Hiding Behind Cars
The officer later went to a nearby apartment complex and reported seeing Soto-Diaz hiding behind parked vehicles.
When the officer located him, Soto-Diaz allegedly ran away on foot. The officer initially lost sight of him but later encountered him again and yelled, “Police, stop,” according to the report.
Police said Soto-Diaz continued running before eventually falling in the roadway, allowing officers to catch up with him.
Officers allege Soto-Diaz continued resisting during the arrest by refusing to get on the ground, refusing to place his hands behind his back and physically resisting their efforts to take him into custody.
After being advised of his Miranda rights, Soto-Diaz told police he ran because he was scared, according to the arrest report.
Soto-Diaz was transported to the Irving Jail and charged with Evading Arrest or Detention with a Vehicle, Evading Arrest or Detention on Foot and Resisting Arrest.
