Armed Robbery Suspect Dies After Irving Gas Station Clerk Shoots Back

IRVING, Texas - A 30-year-old man died after police say he attempted to rob an Irving gas station clerk at gunpoint and was shot when the clerk pulled his own gun and fired at him.

The shooting happened around 10:35 p.m. on August 3, 2026, at the Shell station on the south side of State Highway 183 at N. O'Connor Road.

According to information from Irving police, the man entered the gas station and attempted to rob the clerk at gunpoint.

During the confrontation, the clerk was able to quickly retrieve his own firearm and shoot the would-be robber.

Despite being wounded, the man fled the gas station on foot. The clerk then called 911 and reported what had happened.

Irving police officers and investigators responded and began searching the surrounding area. Investigators believed the wounded man could not have traveled far on foot.

Officers did locate him a short distance from the gas station suffering from a gunshot wound and unable to continue fleeing.

Police provided medical aid until emergency medical personnel arrived. He was transported to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, where he later died from his injuries.

The Dallas County Medical Examiner's Office identified him as Tevin Deante Edwards, 30.

The shooting remains under investigation. In cases involving claims of self-defense, investigators review evidence such as surveillance footage, witness statements and the sequence of events before determining whether a shooting was legally justified or whether criminal charges should be pursued.

The Irving Police Department confirmed that no charges are expected against the clerk at this time, although the investigation remains open.
