Dallas Man Accused of Killing Uncle During Fight Over Food

DALLAS, Texas - A 33-year-old man is charged with murder after Dallas police say he shot and killed his uncle during a fight that began over food early Monday morning.

Dallas police responded around midnight Sept. 7 to a disturbance in the 5100 block of Cardiff Street in southeast Dallas.

Officers found 64-year-old Charlie Williams with significant bleeding from his injuries. Dallas Fire-Rescue responded and pronounced him dead at the scene.

The preliminary investigation determined Williams was shot by his nephew, Kerry Armstead, 33.

According to the arrest report, the confrontation began over food that Williams had purchased, cooked and eaten.

The dispute escalated into a physical fight on a sofa, where a gun came out from between the cushions, according to the report. Williams reached for the weapon, but Armstead gained control of it and struck his uncle with the handgun.

Armstead told investigators he fired the gun once, but two shots went off, according to the arrest report. Williams was fatally wounded.

Police arrested Armstead and transported him to the Lew Sterrett Justice Center. He is charged with murder.

The case is being investigated under case No. 131845-2026.
