Dallas Police Reclassify Hospital District Death After Injuries Found Not Consistent With Gunshot

DALLAS - A death initially investigated as a fatal shooting in the Dallas Hospital District has been reclassified as an unexplained death after a medical examiner's preliminary review found the man's injuries did not appear to be gunshot wounds.

Dallas police responded at approximately 4:20 a.m. Sept. 23 to the 2900 block of Maple Springs Boulevard near Maple Avenue.

The initial investigation indicated that a man had been shot by an unknown person who fled before officers arrived. Dallas Fire-Rescue transported the man to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Two days later, police provided a significant update to the investigation.

Following an initial review by the medical examiner, investigators said the man's injuries were not believed to be consistent with gunshot wounds. Police subsequently reclassified the case as an unexplained death.

Authorities have not said what type of injuries the man suffered or what may have caused his death. His identity has not been released pending notification of his next of kin.
