Lake Worth Man Faces 13 Felony Charges After Firing Gun, Hours-Long SWAT Standoff

LAKE WORTH, Texas - A 40-year-old Lake Worth man faces 13 felony charges after police say he grabbed a handgun and opened fire from inside his home before barricading himself for several hours Saturday.

Anthony William Danenza Jr. faces nine counts of aggravated assault on a peace officer and four counts of deadly conduct following the Oct. 3 incident, according to authorities.

Lake Worth police were initially dispatched at 11:33 a.m. to the 4200 block of Canyon Trail, near Azle Avenue, for a welfare concern.

When officers arrived, they encountered Danenza in the front yard, police said. He then retreated into the house and grabbed a handgun.

Police said Danenza fired the weapon from inside the residence and barricaded himself in the home.

Officers established a safety perimeter around the property, and the Fort Worth Police Department SWAT team was called to assist.

The standoff continued for several hours before officers took Danenza into custody. No officers or nearby residents were injured.

Fort Worth police are leading the investigation. The Tarrant County Sheriff's Office and police departments in Lakeside and Saginaw also assisted during the incident.

Public property records from the Tarrant County Appraisal District show Danenza has owned the Canyon Trail property since August 2021.
