Lewisville ISD Celebrates Opening of Vernell Gregg Early Childhood Center With Ribbon Cutting
LEWISVILLE, Texas - Lewisville ISD students, staff, school board members, families and community leaders gathered to celebrate the official opening of the Vernell Gregg Early Childhood Center, a new campus named for a former educator and LISD trustee whose decades of service have extended beyond the classroom.
The celebration began with a musical performance by some of the district's youngest students, members of the future Class of 2040.
The Lewisville High School JROTC Color Guard presented the colors, followed by the National Anthem performed by LHS student Olivia Fechter.
Principal Curt Angeli welcomed guests and shared his excitement for the school year at the new facility.

The Vernell Gregg Early Childhood Center joins the Lillie Jackson Early Childhood Center in serving the district's youngest students in the Lewisville High School feeder pattern.
The campus honors Vernell Gregg, a former language arts teacher and Lewisville ISD School Board trustee who dedicated more than 39 years to public education and the community.
Lewisville ISD Superintendent Lori Rapp highlighted Gregg's impact during the ceremony, including her instrumental role in founding the annual MLK Day of North Texas celebration, which is entering its 34th year. Rapp also recognized Gregg as a longtime advocate for local public schools.
Gregg's contributions to young people have also extended into the arts.
In 1999, she founded the Young Artists Competition to showcase young classical talent from Texas and surrounding areas. The competition was renamed the Vernell Gregg Young Artists Competition in 2008 in recognition of her work and support for young musicians.
Lewisville ISD Board President Allison Lassahn thanked the community, district leadership and campus staff for helping bring the new early childhood center to fruition.
Gregg joined Rapp, Lassahn, campus leaders and elected officials on stage for the official ribbon cutting, formally celebrating the opening of the school bearing her name.
