The Irving Police Department has arrested and charged 52-year-old Christopher Coggins for the murder of 81-year-old Laverne Coggins.
On Monday, February 1, 2022, at approximately 12:30 p.m., Irving officers responded to the 600 block of Brookstone Dr. on a welfare check.
Due to several unusual circumstances, Irving Police and Irving Fire forced entry into the residence. Once inside the residence, officers found Christopher Coggins hiding in the home's attic area and found the deceased inside a large zippered bag in the garage.
Mr. Coggins has a history of violence towards the victim. He was charged with unlawful restraint and injury to an elderly individual in June 2021. He was released on probation from Dallas County Jail on January 27, 2022.
