New Fire Station Required in Las Colinas Due To Growth and Traffic

To meet the needs of the growing Las Colinas community, there is a need for Irving Fire Station 8 to be relocated. Fire Station 8 is ready to respond to all calls for help. However, with increasing traffic at Toyota Music Factory, restaurants along Water Street, several new apartment communities, businesses, and corporations there is a lot of demand. The current location presents geographic challenges that limit the department’s capabilities and may delay response to certain areas within the Las Colinas district. The department believes by relocating the station and building a facility that is better suited for today’s needs they can better serve residents, businesses, and visitors.

The current Fire Station 8, located at 650 E. Las Colinas Blvd, was built in 1983 and was extremely well placed for how Las Colinas was designed at the time. A lot has changed since 1983. Lake Carolyn has seen tremendous growth with additional corporate partners and a huge influx of residential housing. Teleport Boulevard, in front of Fire Station 8, serves as a thoroughfare for the Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) light rail. This has left the current station without community access and a challenge to personnel maneuvering large apparatus in and out of the storage bays. In addition, development in north Las Colinas has created a delayed emergency response to the residents and business community that may need assistance.

The Fire Department, City of Irving staff, and DART has identified a DART Bus station parking lot off Spur 348 and Riverside Drive as a prospective location for a new Fire Station 8. The location prevents losing tax dollars and positions fire personnel in a great response location.

"The Irving Fire Department hopes to receive the support of the Las Colinas community, to better serve residents and businesses in this part of Irving. We look forward to better serving each and every one of you and continuing the excellent services you have all come to expect from your Irving Fire Department!", posted IFD on its Facebook page.
