Dallas Police Identifies Suspect and Victim in Gun Range Murder-Suicide Attempt

Dallas Police have officially identified the suspect involved in the homicide at 1600 W Mockingbird Ln as 25-year-old Austin Tran. Tran is now facing charges of murder in connection to the incident that occurred on August 11, 2023, at the DFW Gun Range & Academy.

The victim, 24-year-old John "Trey" Shaunfield, lost his life during the shooting at the gun range. According to Dallas Police reports, Tran entered the gun range premises and targeted Shaunfield, who was an employee at the establishment. Shaunfield was pronounced dead at the scene due to the injuries sustained in the attack.

After the assault, Austin Tran reportedly attempted to take his own life, but his attempt was unsuccessful. He survived the self-inflicted gunshot wound and was rushed to a nearby hospital. At the time, he was in critical condition.

According to a FOX4 News, Trey Shaunfield had recently completed his studies at Texas A&M University and had begun working at the DFW Gun Range.

The motive behind the shooting is currently unknown.
