Irving Independent School District (ISD) proudly announces that Katy Mai Nguyen from Singley Collegiate Academy has been named one of the National Merit Scholar Semifinalists by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) along with 16,000 students from across the nation.
In response to this recognition, Nguyen expressed her gratitude and shared her enthusiasm for the opportunities that come with this honor. She looks forward to connecting with fellow Semifinalists, engaging with universities for potential scholarships, and engaging with company sponsors. Nguyen believes that her hard work has paid off, and she aims to use her experience to assist other students in their preparation for the PSAT and SAT.
Katy Mai Nguyen is a standout student with a strong presence on her campus. Her involvements include serving as the President of the Collegiate Leadership Club, Vice President of the Asian Culture Committee and Interact, Secretary of the National Honor Society, and active participation in HOSA – Future Health Professionals, Destination Imagination, and Student Council. After her graduation, Nguyen plans to pursue a degree in Software Engineering at either Rice University or the University of Texas at Austin. She also intends to continue her volunteer work in the community and serve as a mentor for high school students.
As a National Merit Scholar Semifinalist, Nguyen now has the opportunity to advance to the finalist stage, where 7,600 students will be selected to receive scholarships totaling $28 million. The announcement of finalists will begin in March.
