On September 17, 2023, authorities in Irving responded to a collision near the intersection of Loop 12 and Irving Blvd. Southbound State Highway Loop 12 has been shut down at Irving Blvd due to two separate fatal accidents. All motorists are required to exit the freeway at Irving Blvd and will not have access to Loop 12. This closure is expected to last for several hours as investigators process the accident scenes.
The initial fatal accident, which involved multiple vehicles, took place at approximately 2:30 a.m.
While first responders were attending to the initial crash, a collision occurred involving the Irving Fire Department blocker truck at around 4:30 a.m. The driver of that vehicle succumbed to their injuries.
The investigation is ongoing.
UPDATE: At 11:00 am, Irving Police said that Loop 12 is back open.
