Passenger Shoots Driver in Southwest Dallas Deadly Incident, Police Release Surveillance Video

Location of homicide

On September 15, 2023, at approximately 9:00 p.m., Dallas Police were called to the scene of a shooting in front of Rosy's Food Mart located in the 8400 block of Old Hickory Trail, near the Sam's Club in Southwest Dallas. Upon arrival, officers discovered Waterrion Javon-Turcel Evans, 20, shot inside a vehicle. Evans died at the scene.

Preliminary investigations by the Dallas Police Department revealed that the victim and the suspect arrived together in a dark-colored car. The suspect, who was a passenger, allegedly shot Evans while he was seated in the driver’s seat. After the shooting, the suspect attempted to pull Evans out of the car unsuccessfully before fleeing the scene. Detectives have released surveillance footage of the vehicle in the hope that someone might recognize it.

In a press conference, Dallas PD Detective Chris Walton provided further details about the incident. "The victim is pulling up in the parking lot, backing in, and when he backed in, there was a brief moment where they stayed in the car," Detective Walton stated. "The individual exited out of the car, attempting to pull Mr. Evans out. Mr. Evans, being a large guy at 6’6", made it difficult for the suspect. The suspect then searched the car and left the location."

Detective Walton also mentioned that another person was believed to be with the shooter, and both suspects fled toward a nearby apartment complex. According to the detective, the suspects are believed to be Black males. One of them was wearing dark clothing with a white stripe on one of the pants.

The investigation is ongoing and documented on case number 166623-2023.
