On February 2, 2024, at around 8:35 p.m., Dallas police received a call for service in the 8500 block of S. Central Expressway. Responding to the call, officers found a disturbing scene. A preliminary investigation revealed that the driver and his passenger, identified as 42-year-old Roberto Martinez-Gonzalez, were traveling eastbound at 2800 E. Ledbetter Drive, just before Bonnie View Road.
The driver reportedly attempted to grab his cell phone, causing the vehicle to drift and collide with a truck belonging to an unknown suspect. The suspect then pulled up beside the victims and opened fire, striking both the driver and Martinez-Gonzalez. Despite the attack, the victims tried to pursue the suspect's vehicle but eventually came to a halt in the 8500 block of S. Central Expressway.
Dallas Fire-Rescue responded to the scene and transported the injured individuals to a local hospital. The driver is reported to be in stable condition, while Martinez-Gonzalez succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
