On April 21, 2024, at approximately 9:40 p.m., Dallas Police responded to an assist call in the 700 block of Cantregral Street in Old East Dallas.
According to preliminary findings, a private investigator was attempting to apprehend the suspect, 29-year-old Kaland Spencer for outstanding warrants. During the confrontation, the investigator discharged his firearm, striking Spencer, who had allegedly stolen a bystander's vehicle and was fleeing the scene.
Following the incident, Spencer was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. He was subsequently arrested for his outstanding warrants out of Ellis County, as well as charges of Assault on a Security Guard and Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle (UUMV).
Spencer has a history of violence, having been arrested for Assault with Deadly Weapons, Fighting, Family Violence and Evading Arrest. He is a convicted felon.
The investigation into the matter is ongoing, and it has been referred to the Dallas County Grand Jury for further review.
