Three Men in Custody After Memorial Day Stabbing of Military Veteran

Ryan Alvarez, Julian Bustillos and Edgar Cuevas

Three men are in Denton Police custody following an investigation into the stabbing of a military veteran on Memorial Day. The incident occurred early Monday morning at a convenience store in the 4000 block of Teasley Lane.

The 62-year-old male victim, who was working at the store, was approached by two masked male suspects demanding money. During the robbery, one of the suspects stabbed the victim multiple times in the abdomen. The suspects fled the scene with cash, vape products, and a case of beer, driven by a third male suspect.

Emergency responders transported the victim to a hospital, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

On Wednesday morning, Denton police located the suspect vehicle, leading to the identification and arrest of the three suspects. Detectives identified the suspects in the store as 20-year-old Ryan Alvarez of Argyle and 20-year-old Julian Bustillos of Denton, with Bustillos being the one who stabbed the victim. The driver was identified as 20-year-old Edgar Cuevas of Krum, who was seen obstructing the vehicle’s license plate shortly before the robbery.

All three suspects were arrested without incident and are currently in the City of Denton Jail, with bond not yet set.
