Man Found Guilty of Capital Murder in Dallas Gas Station Shooting

Taurus Batts

In a recent trial, 32-year-old Taurus Batts of Dallas was found guilty of capital murder in the case involving the deaths of Kendrick Williams and his son Dewone Williams. The incident took place on October 28, 2022, at the Shamrock gas station located on Corinth St. and Morrell.

Kendrick had driven Dewone to the gas station to pick up his paycheck, where they encountered Batts, a family friend. Agreeing to give Batts a ride home, Kendrick allowed him into the vehicle. However, after a brief stop at a nearby convenience store, Batts exited the vehicle and shortly thereafter, both Kendrick and Dewone were found shot in the head inside the car.

Despite Batts claiming the shootings were accidental during a struggle over a gun, the jury did not find his testimony credible. Batts was subsequently found guilty of capital murder and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole on May 17, 2024.
