During the May meeting of the Irving Heritage Society, a historical marker was unveiled beside the depot at Heritage Park. Irving was founded in 1903 as a town along the newly laid tracks of the Rock Island Railway. In 1986 the Irving Heritage Society led an effort to purchase and move the current depot structure from Fate, Texas, to Irving as the original Irving depot was no longer available.
Providing the honors of the unveiling of the marker were depot docent for many years Peggy Duvall, artist Pete Fernandez who located the depot building, and 2010-2011 Heritage Society President Eleanor Bell.
