The Irving Police Department is investigating a fatal motorcycle crash that claimed the life of 38-year-old Officer Jerome Scholz, a five-year veteran of the department.
The accident occurred on Friday, November 15, 2024, at approximately 4:40 PM in the 7800 block of Valley View Lane near IH-635 in Irving. Responding officers found Officer Scholz critically injured at the scene. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 5:30 PM.
Preliminary findings indicate that another driver failed to yield the right of way while turning, resulting in the collision. Officer Scholz, who was off duty at the time, was riding his motorcycle when the crash occurred.
In addition to his service with the Irving Police Department, Officer Scholz was a U.S. Army veteran. Details regarding funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date. The investigation remains ongoing.
