A Denton County Grand Jury has indicted Anthony Nguyen, 35, of Lewisville, for Murder following a Denton Police Department investigation into the fatal overdose of 51-year-old John Zepka.
On July 30, Denton Police and Fire responded to an unconscious person call at an apartment in the 6300 block of Shady Shores Road. Zepka was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner determined Zepka’s cause of death to be multidrug toxicity involving methamphetamine, fentanyl, and bromazolam.
Denton PD investigators linked Nguyen to the sale of fentanyl-laced pills to Zepka prior to his death. Nguyen, already in custody at the Denton County Jail since August 3 for unrelated charges, was served a Murder arrest warrant.
Indictment
On November 19, Nguyen was formally indicted for Murder. His bond is set at $1 million.
This marks the third fentanyl-related Murder arrest in Denton this year and the sixth since the implementation of a Texas law on September 1, 2023, criminalizing the act of supplying fentanyl that results in death.
