On Friday, December 6th, 2024, a Denton County jury convicted 18-year-old Jatevon Johnson of Capital Murder in connection with the February 14, 2023, killing of Daniel White, a pawn shop owner from Lewisville. The conviction carries a life sentence without the possibility of parole.
Daniel White, who had been working at the family-owned pawn shop since he was 16 years old, was shot and killed during an attempted robbery as he opened the store for the day. According to police, three individuals attempted to rob White, and the situation escalated to his death.
Johnson was arrested less than two weeks later and charged with capital murder. The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Britney Gendron and Paul Hiemke, who presented the State's case following an investigation by the Lewisville Police Department. DA Investigator Mark Michniacki and Victim Liaison Amber Dunn also assisted in the case.
The two other suspects involved in the robbery, Denyrion Skinner and Damonta Skinner, were also arrested and charged with capital murder. They are scheduled to stand trial separately.
