After a five-year investigation, the Denton Police Department has formally charged Don Edward Bullard, Jr., 60, with the murder of 41-year-old Angelique Yvonne Hataway, whose remains were recently identified as those of the missing woman.
Hataway was reported missing by a family member in April 2019, after they had not heard from her since January of that year. Bullard, who was living with Hataway at the time of her disappearance in the 500 block of N. Mayhill Road, was believed to be the last person to have seen her. During the investigation, Denton Police interviewed Bullard multiple times, but he denied any knowledge of her whereabouts.
On September 10, 2024, Denton Police were alerted to the discovery of possible human remains buried behind the residence on Mayhill Road. A search warrant was executed, and human remains were recovered from the location, along with personal items that were consistent with things known to belong to Hataway.
These remains were sent for DNA testing, and on December 17, 2024, the Center for Human Identification (CHI) at the University of North Texas Health Science Center confirmed that the remains belonged to Hataway.
Based on the evidence, including witness and suspect interviews, police obtained an arrest warrant for Bullard on December 19, 2024, charging him with the murder of Hataway. Bullard was already in custody at the Denton County Jail on unrelated charges at the time the warrant was issued.
Bullard now faces a $1 million bond for the murder charge, and the investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to piece together the circumstances surrounding Hataway’s death.
