In a shocking move, FC Dallas has traded forward Jesús Ferreira, widely regarded as one of the club's best players, to Seattle Sounders FC. FC Dallas is receiving winger Brazilian, Léo Chú, $1 million in 2025 General Allocation Money (GAM), $500,000 in 2026 GAM, up to $800,000 in conditional GAM based on performance metrics, and a 2025 International Roster Slot. FC Dallas also retains a percentage of any future transfer fee if Ferreira is sold within MLS or internationally.
It's early to know who will benefit the most from this deal. The 2025 International Roster Slot is an interesting piece that could be used for a big name acquisition.
Ferreira, the most decorated Homegrown player in FC Dallas history, leaves after 163 MLS regular season appearances, 53 goals, and 34 assists.
“On behalf of everyone at FC Dallas, I want to thank Jesús Ferreira for his contributions to our club,” said FC Dallas President Dan Hunt. “From his time in our Academy to becoming one of the top players in MLS, Jesús has made a tremendous impact on our organization. His dedication and goal-scoring prowess will always be an important part of our history.”
Ferreira’s tenure with FC Dallas includes numerous milestones. Signed as a Homegrown player in 2016, he became the youngest player in club history to play and score in an MLS match at 16 years and 161 days. He tied the club’s single-season goal-scoring record with 18 goals in 2022, earning MLS Young Player of the Year honors and a spot in the MLS Best XI. With the U.S. National Team, Ferreira holds records for back-to-back hat tricks in the Gold Cup group stage and tied Landon Donovan for the most career hat tricks by a U.S. player.
Joining Dallas in exchange is Brazilian winger Léo Chú, who spent three seasons with Seattle Sounders FC. Chú made 94 appearances across all competitions, contributing to the Sounders’ historic 2022 Concacaf Champions League victory. Prior to his time in Seattle, Chú played professionally in Brazil with Grêmio and Ceará Sporting Club.
This trade marks the end of an era for Ferreira, who joined the FC Dallas Academy at age 8, following his father, David Ferreira, a former FC Dallas player and MLS MVP. Jesús Ferreira leaves a lasting legacy at the club and continues his career with Seattle Sounders FC.
