LEWISVILLE, Texas - A Lewisville man is facing multiple felony charges after police say he brutally assaulted his girlfriend for hours, strangled her, threatened to kill her and her family, stole her vehicle, and threatened to publish intimate videos of her if she contacted law enforcement.
According to the Lewisville Police Department, officers responded at approximately 11:34 p.m. on Aug. 1 to the Avery Apartments in the 300 block of Continental Drive after the victim called 911, reporting that her boyfriend, 30-year-old Jesus Alberto Rodriguez-Arroyo, had beaten her earlier that day and that she feared for her life.
When officers arrived, they observed the victim suffering from serious visible injuries. Lewisville Fire Department paramedics transported her to a local hospital for treatment.
Inside the apartment, officers found extensive damage consistent with a prolonged and violent assault. Investigators documented broken glass throughout the residence, a kicked-in back door, two broken televisions, destroyed furniture and bedrooms, shattered perfume bottles, and two kitchen knives with broken handles. One of the knives was allegedly used to threaten the victim.
According to investigators, the victim and Rodriguez-Arroyo had been dating for approximately three months.
The victim told police Rodriguez-Arroyo came to her apartment shortly before 1 a.m. on Aug. 1. The two drank tequila, danced and had consensual sex before he became enraged after she refused to let him search her cell phone.
Police said Rodriguez-Arroyo initially left the apartment but returned minutes later. When the victim refused to let him inside, he repeatedly kicked the front door before forcing his way into the apartment by kicking in the back door, an incident captured on a neighbor's surveillance camera.
Once inside, investigators said Rodriguez-Arroyo knocked the victim to the floor, dragged her into the bedroom and demanded the password to her phone.
When she hesitated, he allegedly wrapped his hand around her neck and strangled her while holding her phone. The victim told officers she could not breathe, believed she was losing consciousness and feared he was going to kill her. She rated the pain from the strangulation as a 10 out of 10 before giving him the password.
After accessing the phone, Rodriguez-Arroyo found photos and intimate videos involving the victim and a previous boyfriend that were recorded months before the couple began dating.
Despite learning the material predated their relationship, investigators said Rodriguez-Arroyo became even more violent.
The police report states that he repeatedly struck the victim with a heavy handheld clothing steamer and its electrical cord, causing injuries across her face, body, thighs and knees. Investigators described the metal clothing steamer as a deadly weapon capable of causing serious bodily injury or death.
The victim told officers Rodriguez-Arroyo threw her between her bed and her child's bed before repeatedly kicking and stomping on her head. He also threw decorative items and glass vases at her, leaving broken glass lodged in her hair.
When the victim attempted to escape, Rodriguez-Arroyo blocked her path several times and threatened to "split her head" if she tried to leave again.
Investigators said Rodriguez-Arroyo then forced the victim into the bathroom, threatened to cut her hair and ultimately used a kitchen knife after being unable to locate scissors.
Police also allege Rodriguez-Arroyo sent approximately five intimate videos from the victim's phone to his own device before sending them back to her through WhatsApp. He threatened to post the videos on social media and send them to her family if she reported the assault to police.
The victim told investigators Rodriguez-Arroyo also claimed to be a former officer with Venezuela's Scientific, Penal and Criminal Investigations Corps (CICPC) and threatened to use government connections to locate and kill members of her family in Venezuela. She told officers she believed he was capable of carrying out those threats because he had her family's names, addresses and phone numbers.
According to police, Rodriguez-Arroyo also intentionally destroyed property throughout the apartment by smashing televisions, urinating on the couch, breaking perfume bottles and flushing approximately $2,000 worth of the victim's gold jewelry down the toilet while telling her he would leave her with nothing.
Investigators said he then stole the victim's Hyundai Sonata and drove away. The vehicle was entered into law enforcement databases as stolen shortly after midnight on Aug. 2.
Later that morning, the victim convinced Rodriguez-Arroyo to drive her to a friend's home in Flower Mound by telling him she could obtain $4,500 to repay money he claimed to have spent during the relationship.
At the residence, the friend and her mother attempted to mediate the dispute. Rodriguez-Arroyo initially agreed to return the victim's vehicle, stop threatening her family and delete the intimate videos if she agreed not to contact police. Investigators said he later reneged on the agreement, kept the vehicle and left.
The following evening, Aug. 2, the victim contacted police again after Rodriguez-Arroyo allegedly continued threatening both her and her family.
The victim reported Rodriguez-Arroyo was at a community pool near South Valley Parkway, directly across from the Lewisville Police Department. Officers searched the area before determining he had likely returned to his residence in Flower Mound.
With assistance from the Flower Mound Police Department, officers established surveillance outside the residence. When Rodriguez-Arroyo drove away in his Jeep Grand Cherokee, Flower Mound officers conducted a traffic stop. Lewisville officers then took him into custody without incident.
Rodriguez-Arroyo was booked into the Lewisville Jail on the following charges:
- assault causing bodily injury to a family member
- burglary of a habitation with intent to commit another felony
- assault family violence by impeding breathing or circulation
- aggravated assault with a deadly weapon
- unlawful restraint
- threatening to publish intimate visual material
- criminal mischief
- theft of property (between $2,500 and $30k in value)
His bond was set at $230,000, but ICE requested that he be held as he is in the country illegally.
Police said the investigation remains ongoing.
