Haltom City Police Use Tactical Maneuver to End Chase After Driver Causes Crash, Find Drugs and Rifle

HALTOM CITY, Texas — A driver who allegedly caused a crash and fled from a Haltom City police sergeant Monday morning was arrested after officers used a tactical maneuver to stop the fleeing vehicle. A subsequent search uncovered multiple controlled substances and a rifle, according to the Haltom City Police Department.

The incident began around 8 a.m. November 2, 2026, near the intersection of Denton Highway and East Belknap Street.

Police said a sergeant on patrol noticed an approaching vehicle being driven erratically. The driver crossed multiple lanes of traffic, caused a collision in the intersection and continued driving without stopping.

When the sergeant attempted to pull the vehicle over, the driver refused to yield, prompting a police pursuit.

Sergeant Uses Tactical Vehicle Intervention to Stop Driver

The pursuit ended in the 3800 block of East Belknap Street when the sergeant performed a Tactical Vehicle Intervention, or TVI, to stop the fleeing vehicle.

The maneuver brought the vehicle to a stop, and the driver exited before being taken into custody without further incident.

Police reported no injuries during the pursuit.

Following the arrest, officers searched the suspect's vehicle and recovered several controlled substances and a rifle.

Suspect Faces Multiple Felony and Misdemeanor Charges

According to Haltom City police, the driver faces four charges:

  • Evading arrest or detention with a vehicle: Third-degree felony

  • Manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance: First-degree felony

  • Unlawful carrying of a weapon: Class A misdemeanor

  • Collision involving damage to a vehicle exceeding $200: Class A misdemeanor

Investigators said additional charges are pending.

The suspect's name, photograph and video of the incident are being withheld until the individual appears before a magistrate.

Police Cite Specialized Pursuit Training

The Haltom City Police Department said its officers have completed specialized training with the Arkansas State Police to become certified in the Emergency Vehicle Operations Course and Tactical Vehicle Interventions.

The training prepares officers to conduct vehicle interventions during dangerous driving situations and pursuits.
