DALLAS, Texas - A Dallas police officer discharged a firearm during the arrest of an armed robbery suspect Thursday morning after a nearly 15-mile pursuit in a stolen vehicle, according to the Dallas Police Department.
Executive Assistant Chief Terrence Rhodes and Assistant Chief Samuel Sarmiento provided an update on the officer-involved shooting, which occurred in the 5900 block of Williamstown Road.
Police said the incident began at approximately 9:20 a.m. on Aug. 6 when officers responded to a robbery in progress in the 3500 block of Sunnyvale Street in the Cedar Crest area.
According to investigators, an armed suspect stole a vehicle before fleeing the scene.
Officers located the stolen vehicle and pursued it northbound for nearly 15 miles before bringing it to a stop in the 5800 block of Williamstown Road in far north Dallas.
Police executed a felony traffic stop and surrounded the vehicle.
As the suspect exited the stolen vehicle, one Dallas police officer discharged a firearm.
Authorities confirmed that neither the suspect nor any officers were struck or injured by the gunfire.
The suspect was taken into custody at the scene.
The Dallas Police Department said both the officer-involved shooting and the initial robbery remain under investigation. Additional information is expected to be released as the investigation progresses.
