Dallas Man's Charge Upgraded to Murder After Victim Dies Following Deep Ellum Assault

DALLAS, Texas. A 21-year-old man originally charged with aggravated assault is now facing a murder charge after the victim of a violent attack in Deep Ellum died from his injuries more than a month later.

According to the Dallas Police Department, officers responded at approximately 11:10 p.m. on July 5, 2026, to a major disturbance with ambulance call in the 2600 block of Main Street.

The preliminary investigation determined that Josiah Gomez, 21, and Sylvester Victor, 26, were involved in a physical altercation outside a business.

Investigators said Gomez allegedly pushed Victor down a flight of stairs before stomping on his head.

Victor suffered critical injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Charges Upgraded After Victim Dies

Gomez was located and arrested on July 22. He was initially charged with Aggravated Assault Causing Serious Bodily Injury.

On Aug. 6, investigators were notified by the Dallas County Medical Examiner's Office that Victor had died as a result of the injuries he sustained in the assault.

Following the victim's death, Gomez's charge was upgraded to Murder.

The investigation remains ongoing under Dallas Police case number 098029-2026.
