Trinity Metro Moves TEXRail Extension Forward With Land Donation for Fort Worth Medical District Station

FORT WORTH, Texas - Trinity Metro is moving forward with a 2.1-mile extension of TEXRail into Fort Worth's Medical District after its board approved agreements for land needed to build a new Near Southside station.

The Trinity Metro Board of Directors on Monday authorized agreements with affiliates of Baylor Scott & White Health that will provide property for the station and related infrastructure.

Under the agreements, Baylor Scott & White will donate approximately 1.76 acres for the permanent station site. The project will extend TEXRail south from the existing Fort Worth T&P Station to the Medical District and Near Southside.

Additional property will be made available for infrastructure supporting the station, including customer parking, a bus turnaround and an access road. The agreements also account for future development of the Baylor Scott & White campus while preserving long-term parking and station access for transit customers.

Trinity Metro President and CEO Richard Andreski was authorized by the board to finalize and execute the donation and ground lease agreements following final legal review.

"The Medical District and Near Southside are building Fort Worth's future right now," Andreski said. "TEXRail isn't creating that momentum; it's connecting to it and amplifying its growth."

Near Southside is one of Fort Worth's major employment centers, with a significant concentration of health care jobs as well as continued development in housing, education and commercial properties.

The extension will give riders in the district direct access to TEXRail service connecting Downtown Fort Worth, Northside, North Richland Hills, Grapevine and Dallas Fort Worth International Airport's Terminal B.

Trinity Metro plans to break ground on the extension Thursday, Oct. 29, at the future Near Southside Station in the Fort Worth Medical District.
