79-Year-Old Woman Dies After Being Struck While Crossing Collins Street in Arlington

ARLINGTON, Texas - A 79-year-old woman died after she was struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross South Collins Street in Arlington on Monday night, according to the Arlington Police Department.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office identified the woman as Patricia Arce Diehl, 79.

Officers responded at approximately 8:05 p.m. Sept. 21 to the 1400 block of South Collins Street near Oram Street after receiving reports that a woman in the roadway had been hit by a vehicle.

Diehl was taken to an area hospital with injuries from the collision. She later died.

Investigators determined Diehl was attempting to cross Collins Street from west to east when she was struck by a vehicle traveling northbound.

Police said Diehl was not in a designated crosswalk when the collision occurred.

The driver immediately stopped and remained at the scene following the crash. Police said the driver cooperated with investigators and is not facing criminal charges at this time.

Authorities have not released the driver's identity or provided additional information about the vehicle involved.

The collision occurred after dark. Arlington police reminded pedestrians to use designated crosswalks or intersections controlled by traffic signals when crossing streets, particularly at night when drivers may have more difficulty seeing pedestrians.
