Arlington Police Roll Out New Look for Patrol Vehicles
ARLINGTON, Texas - Drivers in Arlington will begin seeing a new look for the city's police vehicles as the Arlington Police Department gradually replaces its familiar blue-and-white patrol Tahoes.
The department has unveiled a redesigned Chevrolet Tahoe featuring an all-black exterior accented with blue and red striping. The Arlington Police Department badge is prominently displayed on the side.
The first Tahoe featuring the new design is already in service.
“This new design is modern, more cost-effective, and helps us better align with the City of Arlington’s brand,” Police Chief Al Jones said. “Our vehicle may be changing, but rest assured, our commitment to serving and engaging with our community remains the same.”
The change will not happen across the department's fleet at once.
APD plans to continue operating its existing blue-and-white Chevrolet Tahoes for the remainder of their service lives. As those vehicles age out and require replacement, the department will introduce additional black Tahoes with the updated graphics.
That means Arlington residents can expect to see both versions of APD patrol vehicles on city streets during the transition.
The department did not provide a timetable for completing the fleet conversion or specify the cost difference between the existing and new vehicle designs.
