Fire Breaks Out at Newport Apartments in Irving, Spreads to Three Floors

IRVING, Texas - Irving firefighters battled a structure fire Friday night at the Newport Apartments on North Belt Line Road after flames spread along multiple floors of the building.

The Irving Fire Department was dispatched at approximately 9:25 p.m. to the apartment complex in the 3450 block of North Belt Line Road.

First-arriving crews encountered visible fire and smoke and immediately began searching the building and attacking the flames.

Firefighters searched the third floor while another crew began extinguishing the fire inside the affected apartment. Additional crews worked from the rear of the building, where flames had spread along patios on the first and second floors and extended upward.

The primary fire attack included the third-floor balcony, living room, bedroom and attic as crews worked to contain the flames and prevent the fire from spreading farther through the building.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze, and the building was eventually turned back over to apartment management.

The Irving Fire Department did not report any injuries or provide information about how many residents were displaced. A cause of the fire was not included in the initial information released.

Irving police and members of the Irving Citizens Fire Alumni Association canteen also assisted at the scene.
