Irving Motel 6 Search Leads to 2 Arrests, 6 Types of Drugs and 2 Handguns, Police Say
IRVING, Texas - A police encounter with two people sitting in a car outside an Irving motel led officers to a room where they found more than 90 grams of suspected drugs, two handguns and materials commonly used to package narcotics for sale, according to an Irving police arrest report.
Kristalyn Renee Maldonado, 36, and Jesus Ricardo Torres, 34, were arrested following the Sept. 27 search at the Motel 6 at 3950 W. Airport Freeway.
The investigation began at about 2:39 a.m. when Irving Police Officer J. Rivas approached a Mazda sedan parked at the motel. Maldonado and Torres were inside.
According to the arrest report, Torres voluntarily identified himself and told the officer he had an outstanding probation violation warrant involving narcotics. Police confirmed the Dallas County warrant and took him into custody.
During a search following the arrest, the officer reported finding 1.1 grams of suspected "cheese" heroin in Torres' pocket.
Police then searched the Mazda and reported finding a pipe with burned methamphetamine residue on the front passenger floorboard, a digital scale in the glove compartment and multiple plastic baggies. Some of the baggies were found in Maldonado's purse, according to the report.
Maldonado told police that she and Torres had been staying together in a motel room for more than a week. According to the officer, she acknowledged there were additional narcotics in the room but said they belonged to Torres. She then consented to a search of the room.
Meth, heroin, cocaine and other drugs found
Inside the room, the officer reported finding 77.3 grams of methamphetamine, 2.1 grams of cocaine, 3.2 grams of tar heroin, an additional 0.5 grams of cheese heroin, 4 grams of THC and 4.4 grams of psilocybin.
The cocaine was divided among smaller baggies when it was discovered, according to the arrest report.
Police also found a Smith & Wesson revolver and a Ruger LCP handgun. The Ruger had previously been reported stolen, according to the report.
Investigators reported finding additional packaging materials, rubber caps described as being used to distribute heroin and another digital scale containing suspected heroin residue.
Police said the suspected methamphetamine, cocaine, heroin and psilocybin produced positive results during field testing. The THC products were not field tested, according to the report.
Maldonado and Torres were each arrested on multiple drug charges, including manufacture or delivery of controlled substances and possession of controlled substances stemming from the methamphetamine, cocaine, heroin, THC and psilocybin recovered during the investigation.
Torres also faces a charge of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. Police said he has a 2019 felony conviction and was prohibited from possessing the two firearms found in the motel room. He was also held on the outstanding probation violation warrant. His bond has been set at $485,000.
Four charges were added for Probation Violation for a previous conviction for drug trafficking.
