Irving ISD Football: MacArthur Dominates Crosstown Rival Irving 45-0, Nimitz Shut Out by Haltom
IRVING, Texas - It was a tough week for two of Irving ISD's three varsity football teams, while MacArthur delivered one of its strongest performances of the season. The Cardinals dominated crosstown rival Irving High School 45-0 on Friday, Oct. 2, while Nimitz suffered a 56-0 loss to Haltom on Thursday.
MacArthur improved to 3-2 with its victory, while Irving fell to 0-5 and Nimitz dropped to 1-4. All three teams will continue District 8-6A competition next week.
MacArthur Cardinals Shut Out Irving Tigers in Crosstown Rivalry
MacArthur's offense piled up 405 total yards, and its defense forced three turnovers in a convincing 45-0 victory over Irving High School on Friday night.
Cardinals quarterback Brock Casas-Willis connected with tight end Cannon Spencer on a 48-yard touchdown pass down the middle of the field for MacArthur's second touchdown of the game.
The Cardinals' defense also made its presence felt. With MacArthur leading 16-0, defenders forced a fumble on an Irving rushing play, adding to the Tigers' struggles.
Casas-Willis continued attacking through the air in the second quarter, connecting with wide receiver Derrick Washington on a 33-yard touchdown pass.
MacArthur finished with 233 passing yards and 172 rushing yards.
Running back Jayden Brunett delivered another explosive performance, rushing for 101 yards on just nine carries. Washington finished with 86 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Irving's offense managed 154 total yards, including 90 on the ground, but could not break through against the Cardinals' defense.
The three turnovers helped MacArthur preserve the shutout and secure its third victory of the season.
The Cardinals (3-2) will next face Euless Trinity (3-2), which defeated South Grand Prairie 24-17 in its latest district game.
Irving (0-5) will attempt to secure its first victory when it faces South Grand Prairie (3-2) on Thursday, Oct. 8.
Nimitz Vikings Fall 56-0 to Haltom
Nimitz endured another difficult district matchup Thursday, Oct. 1, as the visiting Haltom Buffalos rolled to a 56-0 victory over the Vikings.
The loss dropped Nimitz to 1-4, while Haltom improved to 2-3.
The Vikings will look to rebound when they travel to face Grand Prairie on Thursday, Oct. 8.
Grand Prairie also enters the matchup with a 1-4 record after suffering a 37-6 loss to Hurst L.D. Bell in its previous district contest.
Haltom will host Bell (3-2) on Oct. 8.
