Accidental Shooting Claims Life of 13-Year-Old in Dallas, 15-Year-Old Charged

On October 15, 2023, at approximately 10:45 a.m., Dallas Police responded to a shooting call in the 2200 block of Harlandale Avenue in Cedar Crest. Upon arrival, officers discovered a 13-year-old male who had been shot inside a residence. Dallas Fire-Rescue promptly responded to the scene and transported the injured teenager to a local hospital, where he tragically succumbed to his injuries.

After an initial investigation, it was determined that a 15-year-old male, who was also inside the residence, was in possession of a firearm, and the shooting was the result of an accidental discharge of the weapon.

In connection with the incident, the 15-year-old has been charged with Criminal Negligent Homicide and has been remanded to the Henry Wade Juvenile Justice Center pending further legal proceedings.

The investigation is ongoing.
