A tragic head-on collision on Highway 67 claimed the life of 28-year-old Rushil Barri from Irving, who was driving a Honda Odyssey minivan with family members visiting from Georgia. The incident occurred on Tuesday, December 26, 2023, when a pickup truck, attempting to pass a vehicle in a "no passing" zone, collided head-on with Barri's minivan.
The two occupants of the pickup truck, identified as 17-year-old Luke Resecker and 17-year-old Preston Glass, were involved in the collision. Unfortunately, Barri and five members of a family, identified as 64-year-old P Nageswara Rao, 60-year-old Seetha Mahalakshmi, 36-year-old Naveena (daughter of P Nageswara and Seetha), 10-year-old Kruthik, and 9-year-old Nishita, all from Georgia, were pronounced deceased at the scene.
P Nageswara Rao's nephew in India, Ponnada Venkata Satish Kumar, said "My uncle and his family lived in Atlanta. They were returning home after taking part in Christmas celebrations at the house of other relatives in Texas when the accident took place.”
The lone survivor in the minivan, 26-year-old Lokesh Potabathula of Georgia, sustained critical injuries and was transported to a Fort Worth hospital. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash is ongoing.
