Two-Vehicle Crash Claims Six Lives Near Somervell/Johnson County Line

In a tragic incident today at approximately 4:00 pm, emergency responders including DPS Troopers, Bono VFD, and AMR paramedics were dispatched to a two-vehicle crash with injuries on Highway 67 near County Road 1119, not far from the Somervell/Johnson county line.

Upon arrival, Bono VFD discovered multiple casualties at the scene and requested three medical helicopters to airlift surviving victims. The three individuals were transported to Fort Worth trauma centers with serious injuries.

Texas Highway Patrol has confirmed that a total of six people have been pronounced deceased at the crash site.

As the investigation unfolds, Highway 67 remains closed to traffic to facilitate the DPS inquiry into the incident.

"It’s a devastating scene and very emotional for all involved", posted the Johnson County Sheriff's Office on its facebook page.

A Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, carrying two teen boys from Glen Rose, collided head-on with a Honda Odyssey minivan. The preliminary investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) revealed that the pickup truck's driver entered the northbound lane in a "no passing" zone.

The occupants of the pickup truck, both 17-year-old males, were airlifted to a Fort Worth hospital in critical condition. Meanwhile, the consequences for the minivan occupants were dire. The driver, identified as 28-year-old Rushil Barri from Irving, and five passengers were pronounced deceased at the scene.

The deceased minivan occupants, originally from Andhra Pradesh, India, and residing in Alpharetta, Georgia, have been identified as a 36-year-old woman, a 64-year-old man, a 60-year-old woman, a 10-year-old boy, and a 9-year-old boy. Only a 26-year-old male passenger survived the crash. According to a DPS release, only two people in the minivan were wearing their seatbelts.

The Texas DPS is collaborating with Georgia State Police to notify the next of kin for the victims in the minivan.
