On October 12, 2023, at 05:53 p.m., Mesquite Police Officers responded to a dispatch near Interstate 20 and Lawson Rd after the discovery of human remains. The Mesquite Police Department received a call from the Seagoville Police Department, who found the remains in a wooded area within Mesquite city limits.
Mesquite Police Department Detectives conducted a thorough investigation, leading to the identification of the deceased individual as Jennifer Mendez Olascoaga, a 24-year-old female from Dallas, according to the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office. The cause of her death was determined to be a homicide.
Following their investigation, Mesquite Police Detectives identified a suspect in the case. On January 10, 2024, they arrested Sixto Banegas Matute, a 34-year-old male from Balch Springs, for the offense of Murder. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
