Fort Worth Police Releases Body Cam Footage of Officer-Involved Shooting

The Fort Worth Police Department has released body camera footage from an officer-involved shooting that took place on May 19, 2024. The incident occurred at approximately 8:19 p.m. at the intersection of S. Edgewood Terrace and Burton Ave.

The shooting followed an investigation into an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon that occurred on May 18, 2024. The suspect, identified as 33-year-old Devoreia Thompson, was driving the same vehicle involved in the assault.

The footage shows that on May 18, at 6:14 p.m., Thompson shot an unidentified man in the shoulder. Officers on the scene gathered information that led to the identification of the suspect and the vehicle's license plate.

On May 19, the FWPD system flagged the suspect vehicle, and officers were alerted. An officer located the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop, resulting in a high-speed pursuit. During the chase, the suspect stopped abruptly, exited the vehicle, and fired shots at the officer, who returned fire. The suspect then drove off again.

The officer pursued the suspect for about a mile before his patrol vehicle became disabled. Although the officer initially thought he was wounded, the video revealed that the blood was from debris.

Thompson was later apprehended at a residence in Arlington and taken into custody.
