On October 2nd, 2024, at approximately 8:20 PM, Wise County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Lex Allen Love tragically lost his life after a collision while responding to a motor vehicle crash on County Road 4421, east of U.S. 287. While en route, Deputy Love collided with a concrete barrier in a construction zone.
Additional deputies were in the vicinity when the crash occurred and found Deputy Love non-responsive in his WCSO cruiser. He was extricated from the vehicle, and life-saving measures were immediately initiated.
Wise County EMS was dispatched to the scene, where medics performed CPR during transport to Medical City Decatur. Despite their efforts, Deputy Love succumbed to his injuries later that night.
Lex Allen Love, 26, was described as an incredibly kind and dedicated deputy. He began his career with the Wise County Sheriff’s Office as a jailer and later attended the police academy sponsored by the Decatur Police Department. After serving as a patrol officer for Decatur P.D. for several years, he returned to the Wise County Sheriff’s Office in April 2024. Colleagues praised him as one of the best law enforcement officers to have worn the badges of both departments.
Deputy Love leaves behind a loving family, creating a profound loss for the Wise County law enforcement community.

Funeral services are Tuesday, Oct 8th, 10am, at the First Baptist Church of Decatur, 1200 Preskitt Road.
