On December 28, 2024, at approximately 1:32 p.m., Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers assisted Fort Worth Police in the pursuit of an armed suspect driving a stolen vehicle. The chase began on Chisholm Trail Parkway in Fort Worth and continued through Highway 183, passing through the Mid-Cities, Irving, and into Dallas.
The pursuit ended when the suspect drove the wrong way on the service road of I-35E near Inwood Road in Dallas and struck a passenger car. The driver of the passenger car, 36-year-old Joel Jusino-Bergollo, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The suspect, 35-year-old Devonte Webber, was arrested and booked into the Dallas County Jail on charges of Murder, Evading Arrest with Vehicle Causing Death, Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle, and Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon. His bond was set at $310,000. However, Webber remains in custody due to a hold placed by the Will County Sheriff's Office in Illinois for an open warrant.
The vehicle involved in the chase, a 2024 Jeep Wagoneer, was reported stolen from Chicago.
