Tarrant County, Texas — On November 3, 2025, the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office announced that 28-year-old Michael Ray Reed pled guilty to injury to a child causing serious bodily injury and was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
The case stems from February 18, 2024, when Reed’s 2-year-old daughter, Nevaeh, ingested fentanyl pills that he left unsecured in their Mansfield apartment. Instead of immediately seeking medical help, Reed reportedly spent time researching online methods to induce vomiting in children. Nevaeh was later hospitalized at Cook Children’s Medical Center, where she died 10 days later. Her death was ruled a homicide due to fentanyl toxicity.
The case was investigated by the Mansfield Police Department and prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Charlie Boulware and Sarah Bruner.
