This week, a Tarrant County jury found 40-year-old Brien Thomas Jakubec guilty of multiple violent crimes, including burglary of a habitation, aggravated sexual assault, aggravated kidnapping, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Jakubec was sentenced to life in prison.
On February 25, 2024, Jakubec broke into a home in Mansfield in the 3200 block of Vista Lake Circle, armed with a weapon. He tied up a young couple and demanded money, drugs, and other valuables. During the incident, he raped the female victim while the male victim managed to free himself and call for help.
Mansfield Police officers responded quickly and were able to identify Jakubec based on the description provided by the victims. He was captured the following day and booked into the Tarrant County Jail. During the trial, evidence also showed that Jakubec committed a carjacking in Dallas involving another young female.
Jakubec has a long criminal history. In 2018, he escaped from a state hospital where he had been committed by a court, only to be recaptured later in Wichita Falls. The case was prosecuted by Libby Kinsey and David Elder on behalf of the State.
