Euless Man Sentenced to 35 Years for Organized Catalytic Converter Theft

Defendant: Jaylin Jessie

A Tarrant County jury has found 27-year-old Jaylin Jessie of Euless guilty of engaging in organized criminal activity, sentencing him to 35 years in prison.

Jessie is among the first in Texas to be sentenced under a 2023 law that makes it a felony to participate in organized crime by committing theft of a catalytic converter. The case was prosecuted by the Tarrant County District Attorney’s White Collar Crimes Unit with support from the Tarrant Regional Auto Crimes Task Force.

The investigation began after Grapevine police received reports from at least eight victims who had their catalytic converters stolen while at work. When officers attempted to detain Jessie, a high-speed chase ensued involving multiple law enforcement agencies. One officer was injured in a vehicle crash during the pursuit and required medical attention.

During the punishment phase of the trial, the court learned that Jessie had committed multiple robberies, including one at gunpoint. The Grapevine Police Department assisted in the investigation. Case prosecutors were Colin Maloney and Dan Cleveland, with DA investigators Ryan Holland and Mark Taylor assisting.
