Collin County, TX – Investigators with the Collin County Sheriff’s Office have arrested two men following a lengthy investigation into a series of thefts across multiple counties, resulting in losses totaling approximately $250,000.
The investigation began in August 2024 after reports surfaced from a mechanic shop near Anna, Texas, owned by Brian Holgate. Customers reported missing vehicles, and when deputies contacted the registered owners, they discovered discrepancies suggesting that Holgate had taken vehicles without permission. The vehicles were allegedly stripped for parts or sold, then falsely reported as stolen.
By June 2025, deputies identified a second suspect, Calvin McGowen, also of McKinney, who was believed to be involved in additional thefts targeting storage facilities throughout Collin County.
Law enforcement executed search warrants at locations connected to both men, uncovering evidence linking them to thefts from the original mechanic shop, storage facilities, and other incidents in Grayson County.
Holgate and McGowen face multiple felony charges, including:
-
Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity – Third-Degree Felony
-
Theft of Property Over $30,000 but Less Than $150,000 – Third-Degree Felony
-
Theft of Property Over $2,500 but Less Than $30,000 – State Jail Felony
The investigation is ongoing as deputies work with surrounding jurisdictions to identify additional victims and uncover related criminal activity.
